Get to Know Your Artist

September 11, 2019

Today we sat down and talked watercolors and life with Amanda Lander...

What made you want to be a tattoo artist?

I have always loved art, and wanted to make a living doing something art related.  For a while I juggled working in customer service while operating an etsy shop where I sold art prints and greeting cards.  My sister, who is the shop owner, had mentioned teaching me a few times, but I never really took the idea seriously… I would have to quit a fairly well paying job I had worked at for a while in order to pick up something part time to try it out with no guarantee I would be good at it or successful.  However, once I took stock of things and asked myself if I wanted to spend the rest of my life answering phones, I decided to take the risk to have a chance to do something I would love and that would be much more rewarding.  It certainly paid off!

Do you have a favorite style you want to pursue?

I love doing bright, colorful pieces, but also enjoy dotwork, and more delicate tattoos as well.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I like to read, spend time with my pets and houseplants, cook/bake, draw, play video games.

How many pets do you have and names?

I have a dog named Tesla, two axolotls named Aziraphale and Crowley, two betta fish named Toast and Sticky, and various other small fish and snails.

Tell me a little about your immediate family…

My parents still live in the area and one of my sisters is actually the owner, Jessie.  I have a brother who lives in Massachusetts and another sister who lives in Ohio as well.

Are you from this area?

I grew up in Lebanon, but now live closer to Dayton

What’s your favorite local restaurant and what do you get?

Wheatpenny in Dayton, they have an awesome beet pesto pizza
